Tests don’t need to be completed in sequence. Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems recommends that angle measurements be completed first in case the material is determined to be cohesive so that issue won’t affect the other measurements. After the angle tests, the density and cohesion tests can be performed.
The Micron Powder Characteristics Tester PT-X is used to evaluate the aerated and packed density and compressibility of materials. The system employs the methods developed by Ralph L. Carr (Carr Indices) to determine the “flowability and floodability” of dry powders. The model PT-X is the latest design of the Hosokawa Micron Powder Characteristics Tester which utilizes state-of-the art features to identify the specific characteristics of powdered samples for a wide range of application fields.
Since 1968, when the original Powder Tester was developed, more than 3,500 units have been delivered to companies worldwide. The testing standards used by the Powder Tester has made it the choice in the development of more than 3,000 patents; 1,800 within the last 10 years. The latest completely updated model PT-X has been equipped with features suggested by many global users of earlier models, making the PT-X the most technologically advanced instrument to measure powder flow characteristics.
Wide-ranging measurements
The Micron Powder Characteristics Tester PT-X measures a range of dry powder characteristics including angle of repose, cohesion, aerated density, uniformity, dispersibility, compressibility, and angle of fall. Other key characteristics include packed density, angle of spatula, angle of difference, and particle size.
Among the Powder Tester’s key features is automated vibration with electronically controlled vib-sensor for repeatable results and complete powder characterization in one instrument. The unit reduces operator intervention, ensuring analysis accuracy and repeatability, while user friendly software reduces analysis time.
The compact design is 34% smaller than previous models and a specially designed feeder provides reliable sample feeding. Other key elements include test sieve identification, optional integrated HEPA filter dust protection, and multi-language functionality. The Micron Powder Characteristics Tester PT-X complies with FDA Tapped Bulk Density (USP) ASTM, Kawakita’s equation for compressibility.
