This video showes construction phases and testing of big magnetic drive pumps, supplied and successfully commissioned at King Fahd Industries Port of Al-Jubail Terminal. M Pumps Delivers 2 sets of 400 kW and 4 sets of 250 kW fully meeting API 685 2nd Edition (designation type OH2), Jetty loading Pumps for TDI (Toluene diisocyanate), MDI (Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) and ACN (Acetonitrile). Reliability, Safety and Environment protection are always the main concern when pumping TDI MDI and ACN which are highly flammable and toxic chemicals.
To meet these demanding applications, SABIC specified sealless pumps for the safe pumping of the above chemicals.
CNCEC (China National Chemical Engineering Corporation, the EPC, was challenged to seek solution from a handful of manufacturers in the world who had the experience to provide suitable sealless pumps which could deliver 720 m3/h capacity at up to 82 meters head, coupled with 4KV medium voltage electric motors for 6 sets of jetty loading pumps. A final technical comparison and selection was then restricted to a reputable German Canned Motor Pumps and M Pumps Sealless Magnetically Driven Pumps, as to which was the best pump type to be selected for the said application. The final decision was made in favor of M Pumps magnetically Driven sealless Pumps based on the following competitive features and advantages:
– Deliver superior power output to weight ratio.: Due to the advantage of the magnet and rear casing materials, M Pumps is able to attain high output power using smaller magnetic coupling in term of weight and size compared to the canned motors which are using rotor with bigger and heavier weight steel Core. As a result, M Pumps is able to achieve 400 kW installed motor Vs 500 kW on a canned motor pumps for the same duty of operation.
– Ease of site maintenance.: M Pumps magnetic drive pumps could be serviced at site by technicians without special tools. Back pull-out and modular designs allow quick turnaround. However, repair of an explosion proof canned motor pumps needs to be carried out by authorized factory and personnel. This would result in considerable delay (totally unacceptable for plants with critical operation)
‘-Ease of site Installation: M Pumps magnetic drive pumps are in OH2, horizontal configuration which allows site installation works with ease. Whereas, the big size canned motor pumps could only be installed in vertical position in order to reduce the heavy rotor load imposed on the shaft sleeve bearings and bushings. This would pose great difficulty for site installation and future maintenance works.
-Secondary Containment.: Each M Pumps magnetic drive pumps is installed with dry running seal as secondary containment for protection and monitoring in the event of rear casing being breached (fully meeting API 685 2nd Edition)
-Lower cost of procurement: In view of the 4kV medium voltage power supply, special motors have to be taylored made to match the applications for canned motor pumps. As a result, the costs is enormous compared to M Pumps magnetic drive pumps using standard medium voltage motors which are widely available.
M Pumps was honored to be selected by SABIC to deliver critical Jetty loading pumps for this reputable project. To achieve the highest standards demanded in the technical specifications, all the pumps design and productions was carried out in M Pumps state of the art manufacturing and research center located in Corbola Italy.
Pumps were designed meeting and exceeding both API 685 2nd Edition and CNCEC stringent requirement (painting, clarification and deviations to international standards, testing and documentation submittal).
M PUMPS 40 year-experience in design and manufacture magnetic drive pumps was critical to meet the stringent requirements; the use of bespoke designed rear shell containment allowed power absorption/power installation radical reduction as well as almost negligible heat generation in the magnet areas.
All pumps were successfully tested and witnessed by both CNCEC and SABIC’s TPIs.
